- Clean the genitals after passing urine and stool. Women with frequent or intercourse-related infections should empty bladder before & following intercourse.
- To make urine less acidic, a teaspoon of soda bicarbonate is added in water and consumed 3-4 times a day.
- Avoid sour citrus fruits, vinegar, proteins like egg, fish, and chicken because they make the urine more acidic.
- Use alternative methods of contraception other than spermicidal agents and female condom (diaphragm).
- Use sanitary napkins instead of tampons during periods. Tampons cause increase in local temperature and moisture and encourage growth of bacteria.
- Snugly fitting cotton undergarments are advised for free circulation of air.
