- Touching the lesions:Avoid touching the eruptions, scratching or shaving over them, as infection can spread easily to adjacent healthy parts of the skin.
- Washing hands: Keep your hands clean and wash them regularly to prevent spread of the infection.
- Sharing items: Avoid sharing items belonging to an infected person including soaps, towels, clothes and any sports gear that the infected person comes in direct contact with.
- Sexual contact: Since sexual transmission of the infection is common in adults, refrain from having sex with an infected person. Barrier methods of contraception like condoms may not be entirely effective in prevention of infection as the lesions may be present on parts of skin not covered by the condom.
