 Diet and Nutrition of Gallstones
  • High-Fibre Diet: Make sure you adopt a high-fibre nutritional regime. Stock up on beans, pulses, oats and fresh fruits. Include vegetables like carrots, cabbage, spinach, lentils, green peas and lima beans in your diet.
  • Low-Fat Diet: Couple your high-fibre diet with a low-fat component. A fat-rich diet can sometimes cause discomfort in abdomen. Low fat-diet products such as skimmed milk, low-fat yogurt, low-fat salad dressings, etc. work well, without compromising much on taste.
  • Lecithin-rich Food: It is said that a substance called lecithin (used commonly as a thickener in ice-cream) helps in preventing gallstone formation. The natural sources of lecithin include soybeans, oatmeal, eggs, milk, peanuts and cabbage.
  • Fluid Intake: Drink at least 2-3 liters of water per day. Keeping yourself hydrated is one of the best and easiest ways to stay healthy.
