Because Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune condition, most conventional methods find it difficult to manage the disease. However, if the case history is elicited well, it can be successfully treated. Some of the traditional modes followed are:

- Ultra violet A Phototherapy
- Immunotherapy
The results though depend upon the size of the area affected.
Moreover, these results are known to be temporary and control the hair loss only as long as their action lasts.
