Although Chikungunya has been around for more than 50 years, Conventional Medicine still does not have a specific treatment for the disease. The treatment protocol is to administer supportive and symptomatic measures like:
- Fluid replacement: Fluids are replaced orally or intravenously to take care of weakness and dehydration.
- Blood transfusion: This is done in extreme cases if the Platelet count is found to be low.
- Anti-pyretics and analgesics: Fever lowering medications and painkillers are prescribed to patients whenever needed.
