Migraine is a disease that can be diagnosed clinically by a qualified physician on the basis of the symptoms and patient's presentation. Your doctor will form a diagnosis on the basis of the quality of headache and its frequency.
He will inquire whether:
- The pain is of a throbbing nature
- Headache occurs on one side of the head
- Pain is accompanied by nausea, vomiting
- There is sensitivity to light and sound
- Pain is causing a problem in your daily activities
- There are any triggers that precipitate the pain
Many physicians, however, may suggest few investigations to be done, including
- Computed tomography (CT- scan)
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA)
- Cerebral angiography
- Electroencephalogram (EEG)
- Lumbar puncture
- Thermograph
