World statistics

- About 20 million people are infected with HPV in US
- Studies have shown that warts affect 7 to 12% of the general population
- Nearly 10 to 20% school children have warts
- White people are twice as likely to have warts as compared to black or oriental populations
- Genital warts are estimated to affect 1% of all sexually active adults between 15 and 49 years
Recent studies conducted by Center for Disease Control & Prevention showed:
- 19% of women 50 to 59 were infected with HPV virus
- 27% of women 20 to 24 were infected with HPV virus
- 45% of women 14 to 19 were infected with HPV virus

In a study on viral warts these observations were made:
- In children, warts were most common in age group 10 to 14 years
- In adults, warts were most common in age group 14 to 20 years
- Family history was found in 27.7% of cases

- The prevalence of genital warts is highest at 10.5 percent, among women aged 25 to 34. For men, the prevalence peaks at 6.0 percent between the ages of 35 and 44.
- The risk is also higher among non-Hispanic whites, compared to Hispanics and blacks.
