Glossary of Terms
  • Contagious: (vide Disease) Something that can spread from one person or organism to another, typically by direct contact.
  • Antihistamine: It is a drug or other compound that stops the physiological effects of histamine, used especially in the treatment of allergies.
  • Immunity: It is the ability of an organism to resist a particular infection or toxin by the action of specific antibodies or sensitized white blood cells.
  • Paranasal sinus: They are paired sinuses in the bones of the face adjacent to the nasal cavity that are lined with mucous membrane that is continuous with the lining of the nasal cavities
  • Stridor: It is a high-pitched musical breath sound resulting from flow of air in the larynx or lower part of lungs in the bronchial tree.
  • Wheezing: It is a whistling or rattling sound in the chest, as a result of obstruction in the air passages.
