Crohn's Disease. is an autoimmune disorder. Exact cause of Crohn's disease is not known. It seems to be due to combination of genetic factor and defective immune regulation. The leading causes of Crohn's Disease are as follows:
- Genetics : Crohn's Disease has genetic factor. It is a polygenic disorder. Over thirty genes have been associated with Crohn's Disease. Biological functions of most of them are known.
- Immune system : Crohn's disease is found to be result of defective immune regulation. Impaired innate immunity leads to a sustained inflammatory response to microbes in the colon. Defective immune response causes the immune system to attack the cells in intestinal tract.
- Infection : Crohn's disease has undefined infectious cause. Anaerobic organisms, particularly Bacteroides species, may be responsible for the induction of inflammation.
These are important causes of Crohn's disease.
