Important complications of glaucoma are:
- Blindness: Glaucoma can damage the vision permanently. Initially, the peripheral vision (all that is visible to the eye outside the central area of focus) may be affected followed by permanent loss of vision (blindness) in the affected eye. Glaucoma may get worse with passing time and may cause permanent loss of vision in some years. Once the vision is lost, it cannot be recovered.
- Risk of fall & accidents: Our vision plays an important role in balance & posture hence in Glaucoma less visual acuity can increase the risk of falls, injuries, and trauma. Also it can severely impact the driving skills of affected person.
- Poor life quality: Loss of partial or complete vision can make many activities difficult and life less enjoyable.
