The exact causes of Kidney stones are unknown. Stones form when there is decrease in urine volume with or without an excess of stone-forming substances in the urine.

They may occur when the normal balance of water, salt, minerals and other substances found in the urine are altered. This imbalance determines the type of kidney stones that are formed.
