Kidney Stones can be diagnosed by a qualified physician by clinical examination and knowing the type, location and characteristics of pain. Diagnosis can be confirmed by performing the following tests:
- Imaging tests such as CT scan, or Intravenous Pyelography which is a type of X-ray of the urinary system.
- If a stone is found, certain metabolic tests which include blood tests and tests of urine samples taken over 24 hours for urine analysis, urine pH, and urine culture.
- If a stone is passed, it will be analyzed to see what it contains.
