Your health care provider will perform a physical examination on lower back. He will perform tests to check the sensations and motor control of your legs.

Diagnosis of Lumbar Spondylosis can be made with the help of imaging studies:
- X ray (Lumbo –sacral spine)
- CT scan
- MRI (Lumbo –sacral spine) – shows formation of osteophytes, disk herniation and reduced joint space
- Bone density scans are useful to rule out osteoporotic changes
- Uric acid and serum calcium tests can indicate additional gout pathology.
