• Speech Disorders are usually diagnosed by special doctors who are known as Speech language specialist (SLP). Complete assessment of the patient is done with respect to assessment of oro-motor abilities, speech difficulties, strength of oral muscles etc.
• Certain tests like Denver Articulation Screening Exam which evaluates clarity of pronunciation in small children are also helpful. Language milestone scales are used to determine development disorders of speech.
• It is important to ascertain that there is no hearing loss in patient by audiologist since hearing loss can be a cause of speech difficulties.
• Special tests like EEG, MRI brain, PET scan of Brain may be required in some cases.
