- Family support: It is indeed difficult to handle child with ODD. But, patience is the key to handle such child.
- Therapy: Psychotherapy (a type of talk therapy) is used to teach child; problem solving skill, anger management skill and better coping abilities. During therapy, child and parents both are counselled. Correct parenting techniques are taught if required to parents. Child is taught to manage his anger and release his frustration in positive way. Cause behind the ODD is identified and corrective measures are suggested.
- Medications: If any other psychiatric disease also co exist with ODD, it is also treated or ODD may get worse. Medicines are usually not given for ODD. If other disease is present along with ODD, medicines are given accordingly.
