Motherhood is the most blissful stage of any woman's life. It comes with lots of happiness, joy, ecstasy; but fear & anxiety is also a part of it. This is called 'baby blues'.
But unfortunately in some parents, it can also bring prolonged sadness, hopelessness, low energy, guilt feeling, negative thoughts which are known as POSTPARTUM Depression. PPD is much severe than 'baby blues'.
Mothers are more likely to suffer from POSTPARTUM Depression when compared with fathers. In fathers who have financial issues, some psychiatric problems, unemployed, have conflicted relations with his partner; PPD is more common.
POSTPARTUM depression can be mild or very severe. In PPD, there is no hallucination or delusion; which is usually present in POSTPARTUM Psychosis ( a severe psychiatric disorder)
PPD is more common in parents who have poor marital or family relationships or past history of depression. Seeking help is vital to treatment and it is better not to deny the condition.
If, all is not well, do not deny your condition and seek treatment as soon as possible. Do not worry!! You need not let this take control of your life anymore!
